Virginia Ilie, Ph.D.

About

Dr. Ilie is an a Professor of Information Technology at California Lutheran University. She holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems and an MBA in Finance from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Dr. Ilie has 20 years of teaching experience with emphasis on teaching graduate students and IT professionals both at the Master and Ph.D. levels. She also has significant experience with IT program development and management having developed and implemented the current M.S. in Information Technology program with three distinct tracks (data analytics, IT management and cybersecurity) at Cal Lutheran. Dr. Ilie's industry experience is in large scale electronic health records (EHR) implementations in large hospitals including data migration, process improvement, data models, user engagement and formulation of IT-based strategies for complex IT implementations with focus on improving medical care as well as patient experience. Dr. Ilie is passionate about teaching data management and data science classes with focus on data mining and machine learning algorithms. Dr. Ilie is also teaching an IT project management class based on Project Management Institute (PMI) standards that is applicable towards CAPM and PMP external certifications in project management. Currently, Dr. Ilie's research interests are in the area of IT implementations in healthcare organizations, including user engagement with IT solutions, interface design and system usability. Her research work has appeared in top journals such as MIS Quarterly, Decision Sciences, European Journal of Information Systems, Database, and International Journal of Health Information Systems and Informatics. She received various best paper awards and nominations from prestigious national and international conferences. Dr. Ilie has also taught at the University of Kansas, Florida State University, Claremont Graduate University and California State University Fullerton.
