Citizen Kane: Yesterday and Today
Panel discussion and showing of Orson Welles' classic film Citizen Kane, sponsored by the Graduate School of Psychology and Department of Political Science.
Professors Michael Gerson and Herbert Gooch, and students from Psychology and Political Science discuss parallels and differences between the Kane character and the character of Trump.
In the age of Trump, how relevant is Kane? Are Welles' views in 1941 of media and political power, and the corruption of the American Dream pertinent to America in 2018? What of Kane's public style and private motivation, are there parallels with Trump today? Are there lessons we can draw from Welles' fiction of yesterday which might help us understand our realities today?
