Schedule of Events

This paper explores the impact of Twitter engagement on low-turnout US state Senate and state Assembly campaigns.  Using a database of over 100 special elections, we examine the relationship between various Twitter characteristics among candidates (Twitter use, number of followers/followed, being followed by activist groups - Indivisible, Swing Left, etc.) and the "swing" in the outcome of the election from 2016.  We find limited support for the hypothesis that Twitter use is associated with electoral success.

Ten years ago a core group of faculty came together to begin an effort on campus to engage in meaningful discussions about issues related to social justice. During this session we will hear from past Directors, become more familiar with the efforts the center has undertaken, and look to toward the future of the CEJ.
