Summer Communication Camp

July 23-27, 2018

9:00am to 12:00pm daily

Ipad userAutistic students who communicate using letter boards and keyboards are invited to the 2018 ACC Summer Communication Camp!  The camp is geared toward students who are in the beginning to intermediate stages of communication with their communication partner.

During the week-long camp, students and their communication partners will engage in fun social and educational activities.  The goal is to practice and improve communication skills involving alphabet stencils, letter boards, keyboards, and/or tablets in a supportive environment.

Students must be accompanied by a dedicated communication partner. All sessions will be facilitated by two experienced professionals, Amanda Johnson, M.A. and Ali Steers, M.A., CCC-SLP.

Facilitators:

Amanda Johnson has a Masters degree, 15 years of experience supporting students with autism in community and school settings, and 4 years of experience supporting students who use letter boards, tablets, and other forms of augmentative and alternative communication.  Amanda facilitates monthly ACC Alternative Communication Socials that involve social, educational, and communication skill-building activities.

Ali Steers received her MA in Speech-Language Pathology in 2007 and has extensive experience working with children and young adults who are non and/or minimally-speaking. She is a certificated Level 1 RPM provider and has attended workshops to continue to advance her skills in this area.
