Scholarship Opportunity for Future STEM Teachers

The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship TEAMS Program provides undergraduates and graduate students, majoring in math or science with a career path into teaching at the middle or high school level.

Through this program, you can receive up to $34,000 in scholarships and other financial support to earn your bachelor's degree and teaching credential. You'll also gain valuable hands-on training within a school setting.

The program includes a residency with Oxnard Union High School District. Our goal is to develop aspiring STEM teachers with culturally sustaining teaching strategies to serve in our regional high-need schools.

How does it work?

The TEAMS program is a multi-year program

Undergraduate Students: You'll start the program during your undergraduate senior year and begin taking teaching credential courses along with your undergraduate courses. Upon graduation, you'll advance to become TEAMS Candidate and begin a full-time, year-long teacher residency which will culminate with the earning of a California Teaching Credential. Upon hiring, you'll become a TEAMS Teacher and receive $1,000 in classroom supplies and collaborative support for your first four years as a certificated teacher.
Graduate Students: You’ll start the program upon completion of foundational courses. Upon completion of these prerequisites, graduates will become TEAMS Candidates and begin a full-time year-long residency which will culminate with the earning of a California Teaching Credential. Upon hiring, you'll become a TEAMS Teacher and receive $1,000 in classroom supplies and collaborative support for your first four years as a certificated teacher.

What are the benefits?

Senior year: $16,000 scholarship
Teaching Credential year: $18,000 stipend
Initial year on the job: Funding for classroom supplies
Ongoing mentoring and professional development
Candidates accepted into the program will make connections between theory and practice by participating in a year-long teacher residency program in a high school setting.

How to Apply

Who Can Apply?

You are eligible to apply if you are 1) A Cal Lutheran student currently in your Junior or Senior year; or 2) Any applicant to the Cal Lutheran Graduate School of Education. Applicants must have an undergraduate major or a bachelor degree in:

Biological Sciences
Computer Sciences
Engineering
Mathematics & Statistics
Physical Sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geoscience, Physics)

Requirements

Initial meeting with Lauren Prieto in Graduate Admissions office
Application submitted to Graduate Admissions office
A resume or curriculum vitae
A one-page written essay on the value and importance of teaching STEM as informed by the GSOE’s vision statement
Vision Statement:Guided by social justice and advocacy, we will reimagine education to disrupt inequities and to meet the future needs of students and communities
One letter of recommendation from a current or former STEM instructor
College transcripts with a minimum 3.0 GPA

Application Process

Interviews will take place in Spring 2024
Once accepted into the TEAM Program, students will be required to sign a contract of obligation requiring 2 years of teaching in a high-need school upon completion of the program for each year of scholarship/stipend received.
