BBFKBuilding Blocks for Kids is a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering low-income high school students by providing a progressive financial literacy and career-based education in Ventura & Los Angeles County classrooms.  

Duties & Responsibilities: Varies depending on position. The ideal candidate is someone who wants to be a future teacher. As an intern, you will get to work directly in the classroom via workshops/lessons, develop in-class curriculum, mentor high school interns, receive mentorship from teachers, and work one-on-one with high school students.


Big Brothers Big SistersBig Brothers Big Sisters of America is a 501 non-profit organization whose goal is to help all children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of the oldest and largest youth mentoring organizations in the United States.

Duties & Responsibilities: Provide on-site and general support of classroom setting.  Moderate-to-advanced instruction of and curriculum guidance for Bigs and Littles, with project development input.  Review of match development and interview intake. Monitoring youth for safety guidelines.


Housing AuthorityArea Housing Authority of County of Ventura provides mentoring, supervising and tutoring support to school aged children ranging from 1st–12th grade. Has a high degree of positive contact with “At Risk” or with English as Second Language (ESL) students.

Duties & Responsibilities: Instructing/tutoring participants in academic, language and/or specialized subject areas related to computers, ESL and Arts and Crafts. Reinforce academic concepts and success. Listen to and teach students to read, write and answer questions. Supervise youth to maintain effective learning and safe environment.

Free Clinic of Simi Valley is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides medical care, counseling, dental services, legal guidance, and ophthalmology services to individuals and families in need. We do not receive payments from private or federally funded insurances and are funded entirely by grants and donations. The clinic provides compassionate person centered care to all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identification, race, religion, economic status, or housing status. The clinic is dedicated to providing essential services to those who lack access to traditional sources of care and has made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals and families. The dedication and hard work of our volunteers and small staff are the driving force behind the Clinic's success!

Duties & Responsibilities: Roles include working with administrative support, assisting in coordiation of healthcare, and work with legal resource support (especially for students that are bilingual).


Many MansionsMany Mansions is a non-profit organization that develops and provides quality affordable housing and life-enriching services for low income individuals and families in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, with special focus on those of very low income, who are formerly homeless, seniors, veterans, or disabled 

Duties & Responsibilities: Be a homework club tutor for students that are at-risk and the job responsibilities would be similar to the Area Housing Authority position above.


The Ventura County Medical Association is the advocate for physicians, patients,and quality medical care for our community.  A 501 (c)(6), we provide the latestresources for our physician members and their practices. This include our hospitals, medical groups, private practices, Medical Residents. VCMA is a component society of the California Medical Association.VCMA

Safe Passage Youth Foundation is a community service program committed to eliminating gang-related crime by stopping gang recruitment among at-risk youth. Safe Passage is made possible by the partnership between the Thousand Oaks Police Department, Conejo Recreation & Park District and the City of Thousand Oaks. The program seeks to support the well-being of vulnerable youth, families & community through Literacy, Food Security, Health, Housing, Mentoring, and Safety.

The program hosts an assortment of free services and events, such as health/wellness clinics, food and clothing drives, a farmer's market, preschool and afterschool programs, and youth core enrichment program for impoverished youth between 14-19 years old.

Duties & Responsibilities: Assistng in preschool/afterschool programs, working with food/clothing/health drives, and serving as a mentor/assistant in youth core programs.


Jewish Big BrothersJewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles assist youth in achieving their full potential through innovative, impactful programs. This organization runs community-based mentoring programs, offers college scholarships, and owns and operates Camp Bob Waldorf to assist youth in Greater Los Angeles in achieving their full potential.

Duties & Responsibilities: Event and programming support assistance for students that are at-risk and general mentorship or engagement leadership assistant opportunities.


Emily Shane Foundation Logo

Emily Shane Foundation services disadvantaged middle schoolers, who are in the mainstream classroom and at risk of academic failure. We provide both academic tutoring and mentorship, with a focus on critical organizational and study skills. Only those who could not otherwise afford this essential support, which is not available within the educational system, are identified to participate. 

Duties & Responsibilities: Mentor/tutors provide positive reinforcement and illustrate that their students CAN improve and pass their classes.. Mentors/Tutors work closely with students to assist with school work, paying specific attention to classes with failing and poor grades and an emphasis is placed on helping the student acquire effective organization and study skills. The minimum time requirement is one hour, twice weekly, Monday through Friday, during after-school hours. These vary by site, but typically fall between 3 - 6 pm. Note that you can work either in-person (at a site in Thousand Oaks) or remotely.


Step Up Tutoring is a grassroots movement of young people providing free onlineStep Up Tutoring tutoring to under-resourced elementary school students. They began the movement after seeing millions of students falling behind during the pandemic and  had to help. Step Up Tutoring’s mission is to drive student success in under-resourced communities by providing free online tutoring and mentorship to 3rd - 6th grade students within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

Duties & Responsibilities: Tutor will be assigned to a student from Los Angeles Unified School District. Step Up tutors will tutor and mentor youth enrolled in 4th, 5th or 6th grades in the subjects of Math and English. Tutors help students improve academically and give them a chance to connect and socialize during the COVID-19 pandemic, a very lonely and uncertain time in children's lives. Minimum expectation is 2 hours a week for at least 3 months.
