Mike Sheppard

Career Achievement

Mike Sheppard, a 15-year veteran in NFL coaching, is in his second season as Bengals wide receivers coach. His resume includes two head coaching positions in college (Long Beach State and New Mexico), as well as NFL offensive coordinator's duties at San Diego (1997-98), Buffalo (2001) and New Orleans (2005).

Mike started his coaching career as an assistant coach at CLU in 1976, and from there moved to Brigham Young University where he also received a master of science degree in physical education.  He rose through the ranks at a variety of colleges and universities before being names the Tight Ends Coach for the Cleveland Browns in 1993.  Wide Receiver coaching jobs followed with both the Browns and Baltimore Ravens before the move to the San Diego Chargers.  Mike believes that one of his most significant professional accomplishments is “just being fortunate enough to ascend to the highest level of the football coaching profession for the last five years.”  When Sheppard was offensive coordinator, there were only 30 offensive coaches in all of professional football.  Mike also has been involved for more than 15 years with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program, serving as the head football clinician at their summer camps.  In terms of career goals, Mike would like to become a head football coach in the NFL.
