Don Haskell
Career Achievement
Don Haskell graduated from Cal Lutheran in 1970 with a major in theatre and a minor in business. After earning his master's in arts management and administration at the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1972, Don returned to CLU as an associate professor of theatre. During the next ten years while Don was helping to shape both the drama and communication arts departments, he also managed to complete his master of fine arts degree in art production at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Following his work at CLU, Don served as Assistant Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Arizona, Tucson. His accomplishments while there included the initiation of fundraising support groups for music, art and drama; the founding and production of the annual Arizona Summer Arts Festival; serving as marketing and public relations coordinator for all find arts events; and chairing the departments of speech communication and drama.
Don was honored as the 1987 Man of the Year by the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitros Bureau and received the Governor’s Outstanding Contributions to the Arts Award in the state of Arizona.
Maintaining his interest in theatre, Don served as lighting designer for over 250 productions and shows; has been a production consultant for organizations ranging from the Arizona Arts Commission to the Las Vegas Frontier Hotel and the Kansas City Symphony; and worked with David Wolper Productions on both the Los Angeles Olympics Opening Ceremony and the Statue of Liberty Lighting Ceremony.
