About

Dr. Lisa Buono began her professional career working in the film industry at Egg Pictures.  Deciding to change careers, Dr. Buono attended California Lutheran University, seeking a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance.  Simultaneously, she began teaching in the MFA Producer’s program at UCLA and soon became passionate about higher education.  After completing her master’s degree, she parlayed her teaching experience into a faculty position in the Department of Counseling and Guidance at Cal Lutheran.  In 2011, she earned her doctorate in Higher Education Leadership.  After teaching at the master’s level for 8 years, Dr. Buono was appointed the Interim Director of the Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals (an accelerated bachelor’s degree completion program designed for working adults).  After a national search she was selected as the permanent director in 2013.  In January 2020, Dr. Buono became the Founding Dean of the School for Professional and Continuing Studies at Cal Lutheran, which is home to the Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals Program, the Center for Nonprofit Leadership, and the Center for Lifelong Learning, featuring the Fifty and Better program.  Dr. Buono is a native of California, and grew up in the Thousand Oaks area.  She is an avid hiker and nature photographer. .
