Embracing Global Perspectives

Faculty & Staff Resources

The CGE is in process of establishing a variety of opportunities for faculty and staff development to enhance the institution’s global dimensions. At present, contact Associate Provost for Global Engagement, Dr. Christina Sanchez at sanchez@CalLutheran.edu for general inquiries.

Global Engagement Council

In development

Representatives from the academic community and key campus constituents will work together to provide a central communication point regarding campus-wide global engagement and assist with identification of future directions for international initiatives.

Faculty Overseas Exchange

In development

CGE is preparing documents to apply for government authorization to host visiting scholars on a J-1 visa. Authorization typically takes about 12-months, but discussion about potential guests and planning for the future can occur now. Faculty wishing to host academic scholars from overseas to collaborate on research, teach courses, guest lecture, or a combination thereof, are encouraged to begin exploration of opportunities. Furthermore, faculty interested in opportunities to go overseas to participate in similar role(s) are invited to notify CGE.

Faculty Global Engagement Travel Grants

Grants are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Faculty interested in supporting campus internationalization efforts by strengthening global dimensions into their research, curriculum, and professional experience, are eligible to apply for mini-grant funding. Priority consideration is given to faculty who plan to develop short-term faculty-led programs.

Short-Term Study Abroad Courses

Notification of interest is due by November 5, 2021 for implementation in Spring 2023.

The CGE’s Office of Education Abroad works with faculty to develop and implement short-term, credit-bearing study abroad experiences for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Education Abroad Opportunities

In addition to traditional faculty-led programs, the Office of Education Abroad supports the monitoring and safety review of non-credit programs, such as overseas clubs/organization field trips, conference attendance, alternative breaks, independent research, etc.  If advising students who plan to go overseas in a capacity connected to Cal Lutheran, then notify the OEA at oea@CalLutheran.edu.

International Faculty and Academic Department Support

The Office of International Students and Scholars provides immigration and visa support and cultural adjustment resources. Faculty are encouraged to consult with the OISS staff regarding international student cultural adjustment needs, eligibility for international student off-site research/internship/employment, regulatory restriction for non-full-time enrollment, cultural dynamics in the classroom, and more. OISS can be reached at international@CalLutheran.edu.

Classroom Resources

CGE offers classroom presentations for faculty through pre-arranged request or the Cal Lutheran Don’t Cancel Class program. The Office of Education Abroad provides a presentation on study abroad opportunities for students. The Office of International Students and Scholars provides an international student panel presentation regarding specific academic topics and/or general cultural reflections. Contact global@CalLutheran.edu to inquire about options.

International Education Week

Faculty are encouraged to offer educational programs (e.g., presentation, panel discussion, film screening, etc.) to support global learning during Cal Lu’s annual International Education Week celebration. An online submission form for funding support is coming soon!

Phi Beta Delta Honor Society

To recognize excellence in the field of international education and exchange, Cal Lu is in process of establishing a chapter of the national Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society for Scholars. Membership is inclusive of faculty, staff, and students. Inquiries can be directed to global@CalLutheran.edu.

Fulbright Scholar Application Support

The U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 470 teaching, research, or combined awards in over 125 countries. Traditional extended experience programs are complimented with new shorter and/or more flexible models. Applications are typically due around September each year. An interest workshop is available during the Friday of International Education Week or by appointment with the Associate Provost. Note: Student Fulbright application support is managed by the Office of Education Abroad.
