The Study and Methodologies of Printmaking
The advanced printmaking course practices the historic methods of Intaglio relief and monotype printing while using historical and contemporary methods and materials. Students create wood cut, solar plate intaglio, and monotype viscosity prints, acquiring the knowledge and experience necessary to pull a final print from a printing press. After furthering their basic knowledge of these processes students explored ideas that pushed the boundaries of printmaking. Students developed a stylistic eye and experimented with artistic themes, colors, and methods, creating a comprehensive portfolio reflective of the student’s artistic and stylistic progress. Advanced Printmaking allowed students to improve their drawing and composition skills as well as their ability to render their desired subject accurately. Through the study and practice of printmaking, students expand their understanding and awareness of the human condition as they implement the techniques and themes belonging to past and present artists.
