Campus Mini-Grants

As suggested in its name, this seed grant fund is intended to support one-time/stand-alone projects/programs and short-term initiatives.  We encourage community members to seek sustainable sources of funding.  Based on the event/program/project/initiative’s impact, it may be eligible for a one-time renewal of funding. Applicants will be notified of eligibility of one-time renewal after completing the awardee agreements. 

Awardee Agreement

Projects that are awarded a DEIJ seed grant must agree to: 

• Identify the sponsor(s), partners, and collaborators on all promotional materials 
• Submit a summary of the event/program/project/initiative within 4 weeks of its completion that answers the following questions.
• What was the impact of your event/program/project/initiative? Include assessment data to support your conclusion. 
• Describe the successes and challenges you faced in planning and executing this event/program/project/initiative. 
• Based on its impact, would you recommend doing this event/program/project/initiative again? Why or Why not? If yes: (a) what changes/adjustments would you make and why and (b) would you like to be considered for a one-time renewal of funding?

Deadline for Submissions & Selection Information

The mini grants are open to the entire campus community, and up to $1000 will be awarded per application.  Applications must be submitted no later than 4-6 weeks prior to the event date or start date for the project, program, or initiative. At least one objective listed above must be met in order for the mini-grant application to be considered.  Applications that meet multiple objectives and/or are highly-collaborative will receive more weight when being reviewed by the DEIJ Core Team.

Applications will be reviewed by the DEIJ Core Team on a rolling basis. Projects, programs, and initiatives must be completed within the same academic year the grant is awarded.

In order to encourage participation from many people on campus, applications will be limited to one per person per academic year. 

Applications are currently closed until the 2024-25 academic year.

To assist faculty in bringing speakers to campus by providing honorariums of $50-$300 each. 

Grant criteria

1. The speaker's topic must focus on the following intersectional topics:
   1. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color)
   2. Global inequalities, injustices and/or resistances
   3. Racial/social/economic/gender (in)justice
2. Connect the speaker's event to a class, or any other Cal Lutheran educational and/or programmatic event. The speaker's event needs to be connected to a class or to university social, and/or educational programming such as affinity groups, PRIDE, international woman's day, Black History Month, and so forth.

Deadline for Submissions & Selection Information

Open until funds are depleted. (Funds are limited, so apply early). Applications that meet multiple objectives and/or are highly-collaborative will receive more weight when being reviewed by the DEIJ Core Team on a rolling basis.

Applications will be reviewed by the Faculty Equity Council on a rolling basis and recommended to the DEIJ Core Team for approval. Projects, programs, and initiatives must be completed within the same academic year the grant is awarded.
