Students may petition the residency requirement after living on-campus for 4 semesters.
Full academic year petitions
Students wishing to petition the Residency Requirement for the academic year must
complete the petition process during the previous spring semester.
Students who participate in the petition process must provide documentation to support
their reason for petitioning. Acceptable forms of documentation include, but are not
limited to, notes from medical doctors or documentation showing a change in family
income.
Petitions are reviewed by the Housing Review Committee. The Housing Review Committee
is made up of staff from Residence Life, Financial Aid, Auxiliaries, and the Business
Office.
The Housing Review Committee meets twice in the spring semester to review petitions.
Student attendance at the petition meeting is optional, but attendance does allow
the Housing Review Committee to ask any follow-up questions or request additional
information.
Petition decisions are sent to students via email following the Housing Review Committee
meeting. Petition decisions are not eligible for appeal. If a petition is approved,
the student forfeits their $400 housing deposit.
The petition timeline for the 2023-2024 academic year is as follows:
- February 10th: Petitions for 2023-2024 are made available
- March 24th: Petition Submission Deadline
- March 15th: Housing Review Committee Meeting #1
- April 10th: Housing Review Committee Meeting #2
Late petitions will not be accepted. Petitions can be requested by emailing reslife@callutheran.edu.
Mid-year petition process
Housing contracts are for the full academic year and therefore students are required
to fulfill their contracts by living on-campus for both the fall and spring semesters.
Mid-year petitions are only accepted under the following circumstances:
- Medical need: Documentation from a medical professional is required. Documentation
must specifically state why a student needs to live off-campus.
- Extreme change to financial circumstances: If a student’s financial circumstances
have severely changed since the start of the academic year, they are required to submit
a Special Circumstances Appeal Form through Financial Aid. Pending the outcome of
that appeal, the housing petition process may be opened to students.
The deadline for submitting mid-year petitions is November 1st. If approved, the $400 housing deposit will be forfeited. Petition decisions are
not eligible for appeal. Petitions can be requested by emailing reslife@callutheran.edu.
